The latest mural to Athens, found inside The Mural Cafe, was the first done by Sheila Ballantyne and Sergio Lopes. They just moved to Athens in the fall of 1996.
This mural took the couple about one month to complete. "Step into the Past", unlike the others, came completely from the imagination of Sheila Ballantyne. Ballantyne used history books to research the clothing of the period she wished to represent.
Ballantyne and Lopes are both self taught artists. Acrylic painting is not the only type of art done by the duo, they also enjoy painting with oils, sculpting, and painting ceramics. Various pieces of their art work can be found inside The Mural Cafe and at their art studio in Mallorytown. Ballantyne and Lopes have both had shows at various places around the world, including Portugal. Pieces of their artwork can also be found in private collections in Ottawa.
