Who Decides What Is Popular?

Who decides what things are popular and what things are not? In our discussions people mentioned various things such as celebrities, us the teenagers, the makers, and the media. I guess you could say that all of these things decide and make things popular. The makers make these products such as clothing, cd's , movies ect. And they are usually advertised by celebrities in the media while us the teenagers are noticing these advertisements we decide we like these products or want them and go out and buy them. Therefore a lot of people have them and they are considered popular.
