Handling Data

One of the major parts of a project is handling the data. This is a tricky process and the groups had to make major decisions about how they were going to handle this. All the surveys were sent through e-mail to one member of the group. That group member then distributed the surveys to others in the group to put in their database in Microsoft Access.

When putting the data into the database each member of the group had to make certain that they were entering the information into the database the same as the others in the group. Capitals, periods, commas count in dealing with the data. Spelling of countries and schools had to be exactly the same for each member of the group in the database. Incomplete surveys were a problem, for example there was no age, or school on the survey. How we solved this problem was to e-mail the individual back to complete the survey.

When combining the groups databases together, the text sizes of the columns, the columns name, and what columns there are, are crucial in order to combine all of the data. Without these then combining the database will be difficult to do and you will have to go back and make changes.
