School Profile

North Dundas District High School is a composite school with approximately 800 students and a staff of fifty.  It is a semestered rural school located in Chesterville, to which virtually all the students are bussed.  (Commitment to programs and activities which occur outside normal school hours necessitates that some students drive to school.)

The school draws students from a wide geographical area in northern Dundas County and western Prescott-Russell County.  We regularly play host to exchange students from other countries and provinces.  As with all public schools in Ontario, North Dundas provides an open door policy for parents.

North Dundas has extremely high academic standards with a large proportion of our graduates continuing on to post secondary education at the vocational training, college and university levels.  Academic opportunities include a wide range of programs.

Rising to the challenge of developing our students' interest, self confidence and abilities, the staff of North Dundas offers a diverse variety of extra-curricular activities.

The student council supports the students through motivational assemblies and activities and the community through various service ventures.

Our music department boasts both concert and jazz bands for both junior and senior students.  They have won countless honours at both national and international competitions. North Dundas bands spread our school spirit to other towns, cities and countries by way of trains, planes and automobiles every year. Like true professionals, they're 'on the road' every year.

Dramatic productions involve both staff and students and showcase the talents of our music, visual arts, drama, and technical departments.

Many of our sports teams such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, cross-country running and track and field have won honours in competition with other schools.

On the academic side, the Canada Quiz team wins awards each year and the Reach for the Top team regularly advanced to the provincial championships. The yearbook committee, OSAID, fashion shows, intramural sports, weight training, tennis, skiing, debating, chess, photography, and environmental clubs provide activities for students of all interests and abilities.
North Dundas is fortunate to have a caring support staff consisting of educational assistants, secretaries, custodial and cafeteria staff.  The cafeteria daily provides a variety of salads, hot lunches and beverages at a reasonable cost.

North Dundas provides a safe and caring learning environment.  In addition to providing academic and career counselling, the Guidance Department can access limited services of a visiting psychometrist, social worker, youth worker, public health nurse and school chaplain.  There are opportunities for both individual and group counselling for academic and personal problems.
We are a school community which is responsive to the changing needs of our students. Our goal is to provide our students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities which will be required for life in the twenty-first century.
